Sunland Peanut Butter Recall Continues

New York product liability attorneys handle all types of cases involving people being hurt or made ill by defective products, including food items. A recent incident involving a peanut butter recall has drawn attention to the fact that the most innocuous products we use every day can hold some very serious risks.

The recall of Sunland peanut butter products that began in late September of this year has recently expanded to include a wider range of products that were manufactured in their peanut butter factory.

Sunland is a company that specializes in high-quality, natural and organic peanut butter and other nut-based snacks. Like most companies do following a recall of a defective product, Sunland has taken precautions to avoid any further harm to their customers by pulling a large number of items from the shelves until their factory is cleared for safe manufacturing. There have been 30 confirmed cases of Salmonella poisoning in 19 states, including New York, that have been linked to Sunland products.

Salmonella is a food-borne bacterial illness characterized by stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea. The symptoms can sometimes be serious enough to cause dehydration and may require the victim to be hospitalized. The illness presents a greater risk to young children, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. In some cases, it can be fatal.

Salmonella was the culprit in this case, but when a defective product is a food item, there are a number of bacteria, foreign bodies and other things that could possibly make a person sick. If you’ve used a defective product and want to file a claim, a New York product liability attorney is the place to start.

With backing evidence like medical records, lab reports and samples of the product, your attorney can help build your case and see that you receive the compensation you deserve.
