Despite New York State Bans More Drivers are Texting While Driving

December 19, 2011 – According to a report from New York Daily News, despite state bans more drivers are texting while driving.  A survey from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) finds that texting while driving continues to be an increasing problem, even with laws in various states prohibiting it. New York is one of the states in which it is illegal to text while driving. Younger motorists are the most likely to engage in this dangerous behavior, with about half of those between the ages of 21 and 24 indicating they have done it. The survey also found that even though they believe it is dangerous for other drivers to text while driving, it is okay when they do it. Last year nearly 1 in every 100 drivers was using a handheld electronic device, to either talk, text, surf the Web, send email or otherwise. Compared to the previous year, using handheld electronic device use in cars has increased by 50 percent. This is in spite of the fact that 35 states have now banned texting while driving.  When a distracted driving behavior such as texting causes serious injuries in an accident, compensation may be available. To learn what your rights are, you should speak immediately with a Bronx injury attorney.
