Child Entrapment Death Leads to Recall of Metal Futon Bunk Beds

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission(CPSC) has announced a voluntarily recall by Big Lots, of Columbus, OH, after a child entrapment death in a futon bunk bed made of metal.  The model number of the specific metal futon bunk bed is BFB1008, which can be found on a label located on the support rail of the upper bunk.  The tragic death involved a 3-year-old boy, of Burlington, Iowa, whose head and neck became entrapped when the futon and its metal frame was put into the flat position. The child was unable to free himself or breathe because of the metal frame’s weight. The child later died at a hospital as a result of compression asphyxiation.    This is not the only hazard to be cautious of. Another entrapment risk exists with the space between the ladder’s last rung and the futon mattress being too small.   Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the defective product and contact Big Lots for a free repair kit.  If a loved one has died as a result of a dangerous product, then you may be entitled to compensation. Your next step should be to consult with a New York defective product attorney about the options you have available.
