Bosch Drills Pose Shock/Injury Risk to Consumers

December 1, 2010 – Following communications with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Robert Bosch Tool Corporation has initiated a voluntary recall of Bosch hammer drills because of an electrical shock hazard.  The affected drills are equipped with a grounding system and trigger switch that could result in ground wire abrasion and/or ground connector failure. When this ground wire fails or is worn down, it poses an electrical shock hazard to the user. Also, the trigger switch could become stuck in the “on” position, which could result in injury to the user.  The company has so far received no reports of incidents involving the defective hammer drills.

The hammer drill models affected by this recall are Bosch ½ inch 2-Speed Hammer Drills with the following model numbers:

  • HD 19-2;
  • HD 19-2D;
  • HD 19-2L; and
  • HD 21-2.

All of the affected drills are also labeled with the name “BOSCH” in red lettering on the side of the drills.  About 20,000 hammer drills are affected by this recall. The defective drills were sold nationwide in major retail stores between September 2009 and August 2010.  Consumers are advised to stop using the drills immediately and to take the drill to Robert Bosch Tool Corporation for repairs.  If you or a loved one has been injured by a defective or recalled product, it would be in your best interest to contact an experienced product liability lawyer immediately.
