4 Major Signs of Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect

Putting your loved one in a nursing home is never an easy decision, and you want to make sure they have the best care. If you are visiting them in a nursing home this holiday season, look out for these signs of possible abuse or neglect:

  • Bedsores – Your loved one should be moved and exercised every few hours to avoid these painful sores.
  • Dehydration and Nutrition – Dehydration and malnutrition can be especially dangerous for the elderly. Make sure your family member is getting the right amount of fluids and nutrition.
  • Falls – Make sure that bedrooms and common areas are free of low obstacles and possible tripping hazards.
  • Hygiene – Be aware of soiled clothing, foul odors and the condition of the hair, nails and teeth of your loved one.

If you suspect your loved one is not getting the treatment he or she deserves, alert the proper employees and call a lawyer to see what your options may be.
