Fall Hazard Leads to Recall of Hunting Tree Steps

December 14, 2010 – Primal Vantage Co., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has initiated a voluntary safety recall on its Ameristep Plastic Strap-On Tree Steps.  The purpose of the steps is to attach to trees, allowing hunters an elevated position. The steps are being recalled because they could break, putting the consumer at risk of a fall and various fall-related injuries.  Primal Vantage and the CPSC have so far received 6 reports of the 3 steps breaking and consumers falling from trees while hunting.

The recall affects tree steps with the following specifications:

  • model numbers 105 and 155; and
  • date codes 10/08 or 12/08.

The model number and date code are stamped onto the plastic piece. The affected Ameristep Plastic Strap-On Tree Steps attach to trees with a nylon strap and a large metal buckle.  Approximately 17,800 steps are affected by this recall. The affected tree steps were sold at outdoor and sporting goods stores nationwide between December 2008 and November 2009.  Consumers in possession of the defective steps are advised to cease use of the product immediately. For a full refund, contact Primal Vantage at 866-972-6168.  If you have been injured because of the use of this or another defective or recalled product, you may be able to receive compensation.
