Defective Bikes Recalled Because of Fall Hazard

December 14, 2010 – Following discussions with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Seattle Bike Supply has initiated a voluntary safety recall of its Redline D640 bicycles because of a possible fall hazard.  The problem is in the head tube of the bicycles. The head tube could break away from the frame of the bike, causing the rider to lose control and fall. This could lead to serious injury to the rider.  Seattle Bikes has so far received 8 reports of incidents involving the defective bikes. All of the incidents involved the head tubes separating from the frame, but only resulted in minor injuries such as scrapes or cuts.  This recall affects all 2008 Redline D640 bicycles. The affected bicycles are black with aluminum frames. “REDLINE” is printed on the frame’s tube.

The model number can be found on the top tube of the bike’s frame.  About 200 bicycles are affected by this recall. The affected bicycles were manufactured in China and sold at bicycle specialty stores nationwide between December 2007 and May 2010.   Consumers are advised to cease use of the defective bicycles immediately. For a free replacement of the bike’s frame, contact a local Redline dealer or call Redline Bicycles at 1-800-283-2453.
