Hoover Vacuums Recalled Because of Fire Hazard

December 14, 2010 – Hoover Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has initiated a voluntary recall of the Hoover WindTunnel Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaners because of a fire hazard.  The problem lies in the vacuum cleaners’ cord rewind assembly. The power cord on the vacuum cleaner could easily come loose from the rewind assembly, creating a fire and burn hazard for consumers. This defect could result in property damage or mild to serious burns.  Hoover has so far received 3 reports of incidents involving the defective vacuum cleaners. These incidents resulted in minor burns to the hands of consumers as well as damage to carpeting and furniture when the vacuum cleaners’ power cords came loose.

This recall affects the Hoover WindTunnel Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaners with the following model numbers:

  • UH 70110;
  • UH 70120;
  • UH 70200;
  • UH 70205; and
  • UH 70210.

The defective vacuum cleaners will also have the manufacturing codes:

  • H09A;
  • I09A;
  • J09A; or
  • K09A.

This safety recall affects approximately 108,000 Hoover vacuum cleaners. All of the defective vacuum cleaners came with the cord rewind assembly feature. The affected vacuum clears were sold between August 2009 and May 2010.  Consumers are advised to cease use of the vacuum cleaners immediately and contact Hoover at 1-888-891-2054 to schedule a free repair.
