Choking Hazard Prompts American Eagle to Recall Toddler Clothing

December 14, 2010 – American Eagle Outfitters Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has initiated a voluntary safety recall of select children’s clothing items.  This recall affects American Eagle toddler girl shorts and pants. A metal clasp at the waistband on these clothing items could come free from the garment, creating a potential choking hazard for young children.  American Eagle and the CPSC have so far received no reports of incidents involving the pants and shorts.

The following clothing item styles and style numbers are affected by this recall:

  • Skinny Cord, style number: 3007.
  • Boyfriend Vintage Wash, style number: 3012.
  • Cut off Bermuda Short, style number: 3013.
  • Flare Vintage Blue Wash, style number: 3029.
  • Flare LT Wash, style number: 3030.
  • Flare Rip and Repair, style number: 3034.
  • Roll Cuff Bermuda Short, style number: 3035.

The style number can be found on the sewn-in label located beneath the care/content label on the inside of the waistband. The pants and shorts were sold in sizes that ranged from 12 to 18 months to 5 years of age.  This recall affects about 1,200 pieces of clothing. The affected garments were manufactured in China and sold exclusively at 77kids by American Eagle stores nationwide and online at 77kids.com. The recalled garments were sold between July and August 2010.  Consumers are advised to take these items away from children immediately and contact American Eagle for a full refund: 1-888-307-3672.
