Fire Hazard Cited in Candle Recall

December 13, 2010 – General Wax & Candle Company, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has initiated a voluntary recall of another set of candles because of a fire hazard.  Similar to November’s recall of General Wax & Candle’s tapered metallic candles, this recall has to do with the dangerously flammable metallic paint on pillar candles. The paint on the Silver Metallic Pillar Candles may catch fire, posing a risk of injury or property damage to the consumer.  The company has so far received no reports of injury or incident involving the candles.

The recall affects Silver Metallic Pillar Candles with the following UPC Codes:

  • 86718 56082; and
  • 86718 56092.

The UPC code can be found on the bottom of the candles’ plastic wrapping. “Metallic Pillar Candle” is printed near the UPC code.  This recall affects about 12,000 candles. The candles were sold in sizes of 2.8 by 4 inches and 2.8 by 6 inches. The affected candles were manufactured in the United States and sold exclusively at Bed Bath & Beyond stores nationwide between October and November 2010.  Consumers are advised to cease use of the candles immediately. The candles can be returned to any Bed Bath & Beyond location for a full refund.
