Tennessee Nursing Home’s Mold Problem Causes Ceiling Collapse

January 11, 2011 – Cordova, TN – Action News 5 reports that a Tennessee nursing home’s mold problem caused a ceiling to collapse.  Theresa Jarvis, a former director of Grace HealthCare of Cordova, said she had complained about the growing mold problem to the administrator, Randall McClellan, who ignored her complaints. Jarvis began to experience ongoing headaches, a common symptom of exposure to mold.  Jarvis said that the mold was obvious and had been growing along the wall, up to the ceiling.

The moisture eventually led to the ceiling’s collapse, which fell onto one patient. Another patient was safely evacuated before the collapse.  Recently, McClellan issued a statement that the facility was safe for the residents and the staff; however, the Tennessee Department of Health is still investigating the mold issue.  The knowledge and evidence of harmful substances, such as mold, is just one example of nursing home neglect. When those in charge of nursing home patients fail to address harmful or unsafe issues, this could be a result of nursing home neglect and could lead to the filing of a claim.  A nursing home neglect attorney can evaluate your case to determine if your loved one was the victim of nursing home neglect and can explain your legal options.
