Strangulation Hazard Leads to B.O.B. Stroller Recall

March 10, 2011 – According to a report from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), more than 300,000 B.O.B. strollers have been recalled because of a strangulation hazard. Boise, Idaho-based importer B.O.B. Trailers Inc. recalled the single and double strollers because they contain a drawstring that creates a strangulation hazard.  So far there has been a report of an 11-month-old female whose neck became entangled in the stroller’s drawstring. The girl’s mother was able to safely free her. The recall affects 11 different models of B.O.B. single and double strollers, including:

  • Sport Utility Stroller;
  • Sport Utility Stroller D’Lux;
  • Ironman;
  • Sport Utility Duallie;
  • Ironman Duallie;
  • Revolution;
  • Revolution 12”;
  • Stroller Strides;
  • Revolution Duallie;
  • Revolution Duallie 12”; and
  • Stroller Strides Duallie.

The recalled strollers have yellow or orange drawstrings on the canopy’s back. This is so the fabric can be gathered when the canopy is back.   The B.O.B. strollers were sold online at babiesrus.com, target.com, and amazon.com, along with REI, buybuy Baby and other nationwide stores between April 2002 and February 2011.  Consumers are advised to remove the drawstring. A canopy retrofit kit is available for free for those who have a separately purchased Sun Shield or Weather Shield accessories.
