Rollerblade Inline Skates Recalled Because of Fall Risk

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports a recall on inline skates because of the risk of falling.  Approximately 29,000 pairs of Spark and Spitfire Inline Skates are being recalled because of problems with bolts. The wheel axle bolts and frame mounting bolts can become loose, which can cause a skater to fall.  There have been 31 reports of bolts loosening on these inline skates, with 1 report of minor injuries that required medical attention.  The recalled inline skates are imported by Rollerblade, USA, of West Lebanon, N.H., and include the following models:

  • Spark Pro, Men’s (SKU# 00792200816), Black;
  • Spark Pro, Women’s (SKU# 007923007E2), Anthracite (Grey);
  • Spark 80, Men’s (SKU# 00702800956), Black;
  • Spark 80, Women’s (SKU# 007029009A6), Anthracite (Grey);
  • Spitfire, Boy’s (SKU# 00705500741), Black;
  • Spitfire, Girl’s (SKU# 007056007Y8), Silver;
  • Spitfire S, Boy’s (SKU# 00705700956), Black;
  • Spitfire S, Girl’s (SKU# 007058009A7), Anthracite (Grey); and
  • Spitfire LX, (SKU# 00705000955), Silver.

The skates were sold for $80 to $160 at sporting goods retailers nationwide and through the Internet from September 2009 to July 2010.  While Rollerblade USA recommends that consumers regularly inspect and tighten bolts, consumers should immediately inspect all of the bolts on their skates to make sure they are tightened. Once all bolts are tightened, the skates will be acceptable for use. A video on how to properly tighten the bolts is available at Rollerblade’s website.  If you have been seriously injured by a defective product, contact a New York defective product lawyer who will evaluate your case to determine whether you have a valid product liability claim.
