Rachel Ray™ Teakettles Recalled because of Burn Hazard

December 10, 2010 – Meyer Corporation, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has initiated a voluntary safety recall of Rachael Ray™ Brand Two Quart Teakettles because of a burn hazard.  The spout of the teakettle is defective. The defective spout causes potentially boiling liquid to spill or spray while being poured, which poses a burn hazard to consumers.  Meyer Corporation has so far received 8 reports of incidents involving the defective teakettles. The 8 incidents all involved boiling liquids which spilled from the teakettle. Four of the complaints involved consumers who suffered from burn injuries.

The affected kettles were sold in the following body colors:

  • orange;
  • blue;
  • green; and
  • yellow.

About 59,000 teakettles are affected by this recall. The affected teakettles have a stainless steel lid and a black spout that can be opened by pushing forward on a small sliding piece on its handle.  The affected teakettles were manufactured in Thailand and sold nationwide at department stores, housewares and gourmet kitchen stores, as well at discount retailers and online. The teakettles were sold between December 2008 and October 2010 and ranged in price from $18 to $40.  Consumers are advised to cease use of the teakettles immediately and contact Meyer Corporation for a replacement kettle.
