Pfizer Denied Appeal on Prempro Judgment

January 19, 2011 – According to a report from Pharmalot, Pfizer has been denied an appeal on a Prempro judgment. This comes after 3 women in Nevada were awarded a $58 million judgment against the drug manufacturer.  Prempro is a hormone replacement therapy made by Wyeth, which Pfizer now owns. Prempro was found to increase the chance of developing breast cancer, which is what happened to the 3 women from Nevada who filed a lawsuit against Pfizer. Jeraldine Scofield, Pamela Forrester and Arlene Rowatt were originally awarded a $134 million judgment but that was later reduced. Since that time Forrester and Rowatt have passed away.  Wyeth was ere are still approximately 8,000 pending cases against Pfizer. While the company has lost other lawsuits, this one was the first in which it had to pay punitive damages.
