One Killed, Child in Critical Condition: Greene Co. Crash

July 16, 2012 – Greene Co,, New York – One woman was killed, a child is in critical condition, and three others suffered lesser injuries in a single-vehicle accident in Greene County Tuesday, July 3, 2012.

Fox 5 News reports that the crash occurred at approximately 11:04 p.m. on Interstate 87 near the 122.4 mile marker in the town of Coxsackie. Rushelle T. Thompson, 34, of New York City, was driving her 1998 Mercury Mountaineer northbound on the interstate when one of the SUV’s tires blew out.

The Mercury then crashed into the median and the impact sent the vehicle into the air. It landed in the southbound lanes and continued until it finally came to a stop upside-down against a bank on the far shoulder.

Thompson was killed in the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 12-year-old child was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. The child is said to be in critical condition and has been transported to the Albany Medical Center Pediatric ICU to be treated for internal injuries.
