Nursing Assistant Charged with Sexual Abuse in Buffalo Nursing Home

December 2, 2010 – Buffalo, NY – A 30-year-old male nursing assistant has been charged with sexual and nursing home abuse after assaulting a 77-year-old woman, Eyewitness News 7 reports.  Paul Scott, of Buffalo, works as a nursing assistant at Hawthorn Health Multi-Care Center on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo. It was there that Scott allegedly assaulted the elderly woman. The elderly woman has been described as “physically helpless” and was in Scott’s care at the time of the assault.  Scott was arrested on November 25 at Hawthorn Health and pled not guilty to all charges. He was released on a $10,000 bond and faces sexual and nursing home abuse charges.  Hawthorn Health Multi-Care Center is owned by Presbyterian Homes of Western New York, a non-profit organization. Police have stated that neither Hawthorn Health nor Presbyterian Homes will be accused of any wrongdoing. Scott is the sole defendant in the case.  How police became aware of this particular instance of abuse is unclear at this time.  The public is to be reminded that nursing home abuse is not uncommon. A large percentage of our nation’s elderly are abused physically, sexually or through neglect on a regular basis. If you believe a relative is suffering abuse, do not hesitate to contact authorities.
