L.L. Bean Folding Camp Rockers Pose Falling Hazard

December 2, 2010 – L.L. Bean, in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has initiated a voluntary recall of its Folding Camp Rockers because of an injury risk to consumers.  The plastic anchor that connects the fabric of the chair to its frame is defective. The anchor can snap and cause the person sitting in the chair to fall. This could result in injuries to the consumer.  So far, L.L. Bean has received 6 reports of incidents involving the folding rockers. All 6 incidents involved the anchor snapping and 4 resulted in falls. So far, no serious injuries have been reported.  The recall affects the following model numbers:

  • RNR113; and
  • RNR114.

These numbers can be found on a white tag located underneath the seat of the chair.  All of the affected chairs have “L.L. Bean” printed on the seatback. The chairs are folding camp rockers with a fabric cover on a steel frame. Each is made of a mesh-like fabric and is equipped with a cup holder on the right armrest. Camp rockers with fabric anchors are not affected by the recall. About 2,300 folding camp rockers are affected by this recall. The chairs were manufactured in China and sold in L.L. Bean stores nationwide as well as on llbean.com and the L.L. Bean catalog between April 2009 and July 2010.  Consumers are advised to cease use of the chairs immediately and contact L.L. Bean to receive a free replacement chair.
