Horse-on-a-Stick Toys Recalled Because of Strangulation Risk

November 18, 2010 – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, along with importer Big Ideas Marketing of Owings Mills, MD, is recalling Horse-on-a-Stick Toys because of a strangulation risk.  Approximately 8,800 Horse-on-a-Stick toys are being recalled because the reins are long enough to catch around a child’s neck or head. This poses a serious risk of strangulation. There was 1 report of a 2-year-old boy whose neck became entangled in the reins of the horse. The mother was able to safely remove the reins and the boy was not injured.  The horse-on-a-stick toys are filled with polyester fiber. The horse has a fluffy mane and red embroidery on the ears which reads, “PRESS HERE.” When the ears are pressed, the horse makes galloping and neighing sounds.  This defective children’s product was sold nationwide at Love’s Travel Stop and Country stores from May 2010 through July 2010, priced at around $6.  Consumers are being advised to immediately cut or otherwise remove the horse’s reins to prevent the risk of strangulation. Injuries that have occurred because of a defective children’s product may result in a defective product claim. By speaking with a New York product liability lawyer, you can determine if you have a valid claim. An attorney will work with you to collect the evidence necessary to prove if a defective children’s product led to your child’s injuries.
