Defective Carabiners Pose Fall Hazard

November 23, 2010 – After discussions with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Hunter Safety System has issued a voluntary recall on Carabiners because of a potential fall hazard. The carabiners are a part of the HSS-300 Ultra-Lite full body climbing safety harness. They are defective and could release from an essential pin and detach from the climbing strap. Detached from the climbing strap, the climber is left susceptible to numerous fall-related injuries and even death.  This CPSC recall includes roughly 16,000 carabiners. The affected units are 2010 Year HSS Ultra-Lite Carabiners that were sold with the HSS-300 Ultra-Lite full body climbing safety harness. The carabiners are black and have a pin protruding from the gate; they are stamped with the code, “CB20101.”  The defective piece of equipment was sold for approximately $100 between June and September 2010 nationwide via various retailers or directly from the company online or by telephone.  If you have purchased one of the defective carabiners, you are advised to stop using the unit and return it to Hunter Safety System for a safer replacement free of charge.  The manufacturer has received 2 incident reports, with no injuries so far.  If you have been injured by a dangerous or defective product, it would be in your best interest to contact an experienced product liability lawyer immediately. You deserve compensation for your unjustly caused injuries.
