Boy Given Double Dose of Medication Suffers Internal Bleeding

November 10, 2010 – Tacoma, WA – A 6-year-old boy suffered internal bleeding after he was given a double dose of medication while hospitalized. An article on Justicenewsflash.com states that according to November 10 reports from KOMO News, the boy’s family is now considering filing a medical malpractice lawsuit against the hospital.   The boy’s mother, Destiny Brown, first took him into the hospital when he began to experience excruciating abdominal pains, vomiting and trouble eating. Doctor’s at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital, in Tacoma, WA, rushed the boy into surgery for an emergency appendectomy. After the successful surgery to remove his appendix, young Jay Brown was in good condition.  However, there was a miscommunication between the nurses caring for Jay after surgery. This miscommunication led to the boy receiving his post-operation medication twice at different times. Later that evening, his mother began to notice something was wrong.  Brown’s mother said that her son was fine after surgery, but as the evening wore on, he couldn’t eat, stand up or walk. The double dose of medication caused internal bleeding, necessitating a second surgery on the child. Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital released the following statement concerning the incident:  “We are sorry that this error occurred, and we are looking closely into the circumstances and thoroughly evaluating our processes … and what additional safety measures need to be implemented to prevent this in the future.” If you or a loved one has suffered the consequences of a medical blunder, it would be in your best interest to contact an experienced medical malpractice lawyer today.
