24 Hospitalized after Casino Bus Crash near NYC

A casino bus crash near New York City sent all passengers and the bus driver to the hospital early Wednesday, July 4, 2012.

According to an article by The Norwich Bulletin, a total of 24 people were injured in the accident. The bus had been en route from Foxwoods Resort Casino to Queens on southbound I-95 just before 6:20 a.m. when its driver lost control of the vehicle. State Police said that the bus then crashed into the median barrier before going back across the three southbound lanes and skidded about 500 ft. along the barrier on the highway’s shoulder.

All 23 passengers and the bus driver, none of whom have been identified at this time, were transported to local hospitals to be treated for their injuries. Officials said that none of the victims were seriously injured.

The cause of the accident remains to be determined.

Wednesday’s crash happened very close to the site of last year’s tragic casino bus crash that left 15 people dead and, along with crashes in New Jersey and Virginia, inspired the government crackdown on bus safety.
