Women More Likely to Sustain a Severe Injury in a Car Accident

According to My Fox New York, a new report finds that women are more likely to sustain a severe injury when involved in a car accident. The American Journal of Public Health recently published that women had a 47 percent higher risk of being severely injured (even if they are wearing a seatbelt), compared to men.  This risk is attributed to insufficient vehicle safety system designs, such as with airbags and seatbelts. They are found to not have the same amount of protection for women with smaller frames, whether they are driving or riding as a passenger, when compared to men.  This has led former Rep. Elizabeth Holtzman and Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) to call upon the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration to make some changes. What this could potentially mean for car makers is unclear at this time.  When you or a loved one has sustained severe injuries in a car accident, you could be facing significantly high medical bills. You may also be out of work for an extended period of time. Compensation may be available for these and other damages. You should speak to a New York personal injury attorney to learn what legal options are available and how you can protect your rights.
