Girl in Critical Condition after Pedestrian Accident in East Harlem

November 23, 2010 – East Harlem, NY – According to a report from NY1 in Manhattan, a 12-year-old girl is in critical condition after being struck by a car in East Harlem.  According to investigators, the girl was crossing the street at 116th and Second Avenue on Saturday, November 13, at approximately 9 a.m. when she was struck.  One witness to the pedestrian accident said the impact forcefully flung the child to ground.  Another witness said that the driver, who remained at the scene of the pedestrian accident, was very remorseful. Police questioned the driver; charges have not been filed.  The girl was taken to Harlem Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition. According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2009, there were 1,156 fatalities as a result of traffic accidents in the state of New York.
