Lawyer for a Large Pharmaceutical Company Indicted

November 18, 2010 – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports that a lawyer for a large, unnamed pharmaceutical company has been indicted for false statements and obstruction. Lauren Stevens, of Durham, N.C. was charged with 1 count of falsifying and concealing documents to a federal agency, 1 count of obstructing an official proceeding and 4 counts of providing false statements to the FDA. This comes after an investigation from the FDA into a prescription drug that had not been approved. An unapproved drug can result in a dangerous drug claim if its use results in injuries to a consumer. Even though Stevens was aware that the pharmaceutical company had indeed promoted and marketed the drug, she claimed otherwise. She also failed to provide the FDA with requested evidence. The pharmaceutical company has not been named nor charged in this indictment. If Stevens is found guilty, she faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for each obstruction charge and 5 years for each false statement count. The FDA takes the safety of consumers seriously. When a dangerous drug is made available and it leads to injuries or illness, this can result in a dangerous drug claim. A New York injury lawyer can help you to determine if your injuries are related to taking a dangerous drug.
