Negative Side Effects of Vaping

The following is a list of what the negative side effects of vaping could potentially include for users:

  • Heart disease
  • Lung disease
  • Diabetes
  • Cancer
  • Bronchitis
  • And more

Recently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has also issued a warning for a type of lung condition caused by additives in some vaping products known as EVALI, which stands for “e-cigarette or vaping product use-associated lung injury.”

E-Cigarettes and Their Negative Health Impact on Users

There are many negative impacts of vaping on the health of individuals.

Effects of Vaping on the Lungs

There have been reports of serious lung disease in people using e-cigarettes. Some of the vaping lung disease symptoms include:

  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Weight loss
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Cough
  • Trouble breathing
  • Chest pain

The severity of these symptoms can differ on a case-to-case basis. In extreme cases, patients may need to be hospitalized and may even die from lung disease.

The CDC recently identified EVALI as a possible lung complication from vaping. The CDC believes that this condition comes from additives in certain vaping liquids, including vitamin E acetate.

As of January 2020, the CDC reports that almost 2,700 Americans have been hospitalized for EVALI, 15% of which were under the age of 18. They also report 68 EVALI-related deaths as of February 2020.

According to a 2019 analysis by Harvard School of Public Health researchers, e-cigarettes that were made by Juul Labs contained a microbial toxin called glucan. Of the 54 Juul pods that they examined, 46% contained detectable levels of glucan, and that the menthol and tobacco flavors contained a higher degree of contamination.

Glucan is a microbial toxin that can contribute to lung disease.

Vaping and Heart Disease

Vaping is not just hard on the lungs. Studies show that it can increase an individual’s risk of heart disease as well.

According to a May 2019 study released by the Stanford School of Medicine, vaping e-liquid affects the cells that line the inside of blood vessels. Cells that were exposed to e-liquid showed signs of DNA damage and cellular death.

Damages You May Recover After Suffering Vaping Side Effects

If you or a loved one, possibly your child, is suffering from an injury as a result of vaping, you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries related to vape use. Some types of recoverable damages could include:

  • Medical costs, such as hospital stays, medication, doctor’s examinations, and medical treatments
  • Past and future pain and suffering
  • Lost wages from work that you have missed
  • Future wages if your earning potential is diminished
  • And more

If your loved one passed away due to their use of a vaping product, you may be able to recover compensation in a wrongful death case. A wrongful death case may include damages such as:

  • Funeral costs
  • Medical costs prior to your loved one’s death
  • Loss of protection or consortium
  • Pain and suffering
  • And more

An injury law firm that represents victims of vaping injuries may be able to discuss what specific compensation could be available in your case when you call them for a consultation.
