Big Lots Recalls 6,900 Garden Swings Due to Fall Hazard

Big Lots of Columbus, Ohio has voluntarily recalled 6,900 garden swings because they pose a fall hazard, the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) said. The recall involves Wilson & Fisher garden swings in a natural wood finish, which were sold exclusively at Big Lots stores nationwide from March 2012 to June 2012 for approximately $130. The swing’s 2-person bench seat is suspended between two wooden A-frame supports. They have discovered that the seat can break while in use, causing the user to fall and potentially be injured.

Big Lots has received 14 reports of the seats of the log-style swing sets breaking, resulting in four reports of back pain and five reports of scratches and scrapes.

Assembly instructions sold with the swings have item number JY1107 and SKU number 210020400 printed on the sheet.

The CPSC said consumers should immediately stop using the swing sets, detach the bench seats and return them to any Big Lots store for a full refund. Consumers should destroy the remaining components.

Shares were up by seven cents to $29.66. The stock is down 22% since the start of the year.
