Strangulation Risk Leads to Recall on Certain Peg Perego Strollers

According to a report from Today Parenting, a strangulation risk has led to the recall on certain Peg Perego strollers. Those at greatest risk of this hazard are children under the age of one.

In 2004, a six-month-old boy died after being strangled and in 2006, a seven-month-old girl was nearly strangled.

Although new standards were issued in 2008 pertaining to the size of the opening between the tray and seat bottom, the manufacturer says the strollers had already been made. Unharnessed, young children and babies may slide through the opening that is between the tray and seat bottom. They may then catch their head and neck on the tray.

The stroller recall was issued on Tuesday, July 24. It affects certain model numbers (Venezia and Pliko-P3), which can be obtained from the manufacturer, Peg Perego.

These strollers were sold at a variety of retailers including Babies R Us and Buy Buy Baby. Consumers who own this product should stop using it right away. They should also contact the manufacturer to receive a free repair kit.
