Construction Workers Have Increased Risk of Work-Related Injuries

In a report from Medline Plus, construction workers that work in the United States have a higher chance of falling victim to work-related injuries, illness, and death. This comes from a recent study which indicates that, although efforts have been made to reduce hazards in construction work, the numbers of work-related incidences continues to be high.  In fact, over a 45-year career, a construction worker has a 75% chance of sustaining an injury that is disabling. They also have a 1 in 200 chance of suffering a fatal injury.   The study also found that those who start working in the field of construction at the age of 20 have a 15% increased risk of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease over his or her lifetime. They are also at an 11% increased risk of suffering damage to their lung tissue as a result of dust exposure.  The study was scheduled for release at the annual meeting of the American Public Health Association, held Oct. 29 to Nov. 2 in Washington, D.C.  If you were seriously injured or became extremely ill while on the job, then you may be entitled to pursue compensation through a work injury claim. You should consult with a New York workplace injury attorney as soon as possible to best protect your legal rights.
