HP Recalls Notebook Computer Batteries Due to Fire Hazard

If you have been injured by a defective product, you may be able to recover damages for your injuries. A New York defective product attorney can evaluate your case.  According to a report from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), HP (Hewlett-Packard) has issued an expanded recall on notebook computer batteries due to a fire and burn hazard. This affects lithium-ion batteries that are used in Compaq and HP notebook computers. The computer batteries can overheat and then rupture. This poses a risk of starting a fire or burning a consumer.  An earlier recall was done in May 2010; however, since then HP has received 40 reports of computer batteries overheating and rupturing. There have been 36 reports of property damage, 7 burn injuries, and 1 smoke inhalation injury.  Consumers are advised to recheck notebook computers for affected batteries. The recall applies to certain models, so any questions should be directed to HP. If a consumer discovers they have an affected model, they should immediately remove the battery and contact the company for a free replacement battery.  A defective product can lead to devastating injuries. If you have sustained a serious injury from a defective product, then you should speak with a New York defective product attorney as soon as possible.
