What is Celexa?

Manufactured by Forest Pharmaceuticals, Celexa is a prescription drug that is used to treat depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders in both children and adults.

The active ingredient is citalopram hydrobromide, which works by preventing the uptake of serotonin by nerve cells once the chemical is released in hopes of creating more balance in neurotransmitters in the brain. Celexa is an oral medication that is typically taken once daily.
