Patient Dies during Minor Cosmetic Procedure at Strax

In a report from the Orlando Sentinel, a patient undergoing a minor cosmetic procedure at Strax Rejuvenation and Aesthetics Institute in Broward County has died. Multiple medical malpractice suits have been filed by loved ones who have lost family members and at least 4 people have died after operations at Strax within the past 3 years.  This latest incident involved a woman who had previously undergone plastic surgery and had passed all pre-surgery medical screening. Yet, during the procedure she had both breathing and heart problems. The cause of her death has not been determined and is still under investigation.  Another Strax patient died when the buttock fat injections created a clot and subsequently blocked her bloodstream. While some of the incidents have been found to be a result of medical malpractice, some have not.  A 2008 study in the medical journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery reported that the average ratio for surgery fatalities in outpatient facilities was 2 deaths for every 100,000 procedures. Strax has reported 4 deaths in 90,000 procedures which equals out to twice the national average.  If you or a loved one were the victim of a serious or fatal injury as a result of medical malpractice, then your next step should be to speak with a New York medical malpractice attorney.
