Elderly Woman Dies after Left on a Nursing Home Bus for Over 14 Hours

January 12, 2012 – Grand Rapids, Mich. — In a report from MLive, an elderly woman has become the subject of a wrongful death lawsuit after being left on a nursing home bus for more than 14 hours.  The tragic death occurred in September 2008, in Grand Rapids, Mich., when Susanna West, 87, was left on a nursing home bus where she became so thirsty and hungry that she drank hydrogen peroxide and consumed Tylenol. When she was finally found, she was face down and drenched in urine. Nearly 2 months later she died as a result of complications.  A lawsuit was originally filed last year; however, the nursing home facility never responded to requests for patient records and other information. It was taken over by a Kentucky-based company, but the liability insurance was dropped. In December 2011, a judge issued a default judgment of $1.65 million.  While some states don’t require nursing homes to carry liability insurance, there are many who are asking for changes with this regard.  Nursing home neglect and abuse can lead to serious, disabling or life-threatening injuries. If your loved one was the victim, you should seek help from a New York nursing home neglect attorney. Compensation may be available that addresses medical expenses, mental anguish, pain and suffering, wrongful death, and more.
