Transvaginal Patches
A transvaginal patch is a medical device that, when surgically implanted in the vaginal wall, provides extra support to areas impaired by surgery, injury and/or childbirth. This support helps take pressure off other organs, such as the bladder and the bowels. As a result, transvaginal patches are primarily used in the treatment of:
- Pelvic organ prolapse (POP), a condition in which the organs in the lower pelvic region fall out of place
- Stress urinary continence (SUI), an inability to control urination when putting stress on the abdominal region (such as by laughing, sneezing or coughing)
Common brand names of transvaginal mesh patches include:
- Avaulta Plus BioSynthetic Support System
- Avaulta Solo Synthetic Support System
- Bard Composix Kugel
- Faslata Allograft
- Pelvicol Tissue
- PelvisSoft Biomesh
- Pelvitex Polypropylene Mesh
