Reglan Drug Information
Generically known as metoclopramide, Reglan is an oral medication that, by increasing the rate of muscle contractions in the upper digestive tract, helps treat heartburn (cause by gastrointestinal reflux), as well as slow gastric emptying (in people with diabetes). Slow gastric emptying is typically accompanied by nausea, loss of appetite and heartburn.
Reglan is produced by Schwarz Pharma and has been on the market in the U.S. (and FDA approved) since June 1985. Other brand names of Reglan include:
- Degan, by Lek
- Maeran, by Sanofi Aventis
- Maxolon, by Shire and Valeant
- Primperan, by Sanofi Aventis
- Pylomid, by Bosnalijek
Regan has been linked to serious health risks. It's essential that patients only take Reglan as directed to avoid developing irreversible, potentially fatal Reglan side effects.
