Hydroxycut Drug Information
Produced by Iovate Health Sciences Inc., Hydroxycut is a weight loss supplement that, until its recall in May 2009, was the number one weight loss supplement in the U.S. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued the Hydroxycut recall due to 23 patient reports regarding the development of severe, life-threatening side effects while taking this supplement. To date, only one Hydroxycut death has been report to the FDA.
Despite the fact that this recall took 14 different Hydroxycut products off the market, Iovate Health Sciences Inc. has reformulated their Hydroxycut supplement line and is currently selling it under the name New Thermogenic Hydroxycut Advanced.
Hydroxycut Side Effects
Although rare, the most severe Hydroxycut side effects affect the liver, causing:
- Jaundice
- Liver damage
- Liver dysfunction
- Liver failure
- Death
Seizures and heart problems have also been reported after use of Hydroxycut supplements. The earlier severe, life-threatening Hydroxycut side effects are detected and treated, the better chances of survival and recovery. In most cases, patients will require a liver transplant in order to survive.
